Isaac White and his family lived in the little town of Steeple Ashton, Wiltshire, England, which was less than 20 miles from the ancient Stonehenge monoliths. Isaac joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1850 when he was 45 years old. According to early LDS Branch records, "Isaac White, single, son of Thomas, born Steeple Ashton 10 Apr. 1805, baptized 21 May 1850 by Alfred Bennett, emigrated to Utah Oct. 1854." The Presiding Elder of the Steeple Ashton branch of the Church was "Alfred Barrett," who might have been the one who baptized Isaac White. 

Early in 1854, Mormon missionaries, including Elder Levi Jeffries came to Steeple Ashton. Family histories say they found a receptive audience among Isaac White's family and friends. Isaac's 19 year old son was baptized then. His daughter Jane was also baptized, perhaps earlier in 1850. The missionaries urged them to emigrate to Utah, which they did that fall on the ship Clara Wheeler. They traveled by boat up the Mississippi and Missouri rivers to Florence, Nebraska. His wife Polly and their son James died along the way and were buried on the banks of the Missouri River.

He continued on to Utah with his unmarried son and daughter; John and Jane. They arrived in the Great Salt Lake valley in September 1855.
